Robert Griffin III nominated for rookie and player of the week honors

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is a nominee for the NFL’s Rookie of the Week and Player of the Week awards following his strong debut Sunday.

Griffin completed 19 of 26 passes for 320 yards and two touchdowns, recording a 139.9 passer rating. He also ran for 42 yards on 10 carries.

Griffin’s competition for rookie of the week includes Jets wideout Stephen Hill (five catches, 89 yards, two touchdowns), Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones (five tackles, one sack, forced fumble), Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin (95 yards on 24 carries) and Vikings kicker Blair Walsh (four-for-four on field goals, including one to send the game into overtime).

 Fans can vote for their picks online. The winner will be announced Friday.

Griffin’s competitors for the player of the week are Tony Romo, who passed for 307 yards and three touchdowns in Dallas’ 24-17 win over the Giants, and Atlanta’s Matt Ryan, who passed for 299 yards and three touchdowns in a 40-24 win Sunday.

 Fans can vote here, and the winners will be announced Friday.
