The Georgetown space vacated in 2011 by Garrett's, the venerable dive bar, will be the new home for a Thai restaurant and sushi bar set to open in late 2013.
I-Thai Restaurant and Sushi Bar will replace the 30-year M Street veteran restaurant and bar. Owner Ann Chevasuttho said the menu would be similar to her other Thai restaurants in Virginia -- I-Thai in Vienna and ThaiDeelish in Ashburn -- but with more of an upscale atmosphere and a sushi bar.
Chevasuttho is in the process of remodeling Garrett's and plans to keep the enclosed second-floor patio. There will be a bar on both floors and rooms will be decorated according to a theme, including an "Elephant Room" and an "Under the Sea" room.
Sushi will be available on both floors, but Thai food will be the focus. "We would like to impress our neighbors and show them that we have authentic Thai food," Chevasuttho said. She's hoping for a late November or early December opening.
I-Thai Restaurant and Sushi Bar will be located at 3003 M St. NW.
