Grab Your Helmet
National Geographic was founded 125 years ago, and its “New Age of Exploration” exhibit draws the best photos, maps and expeditions from that more-than-a-century and turns them into an awesome display about human adventurousness and bravery through the years. Thursday through June 8, 2014, at the National Geographic Museum, 1145 17 St. NW. Museum admission $7-$11.

Amid the Shooting, He Was Shooting
Michael Kamber, photojournalist, has been through the hell of covering war, and he’s brought back stories — his own and those of 39 colleagues. He’ll talk about his book, “Photojournalists on War,” at the Corcoran as part of the “WAR/PHOTOGRAPHY” exhibit. 6 p.m. at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, 500 17th St. NW. $5-$10.

Physics and Puppetry
It has “Baby” in the title and involves puppets, but it’s not children’s theater: “Baby Universe” a Wakka Wakka production now making its home at the Studio Theatre, uses dozens of puppets to tell the story of a dying planet whose population is trying to save itself from extinction by generating a new universe that might create a planet they can migrate to and continue life on. Through July 14 at Studio Theatre, 1501 14th St. NW. $39-$62.
