Run, run as fast as you can

Zombies. They seem to be particularly popular around October. Even AMC's zombie-filled television series "The Walking Dead" comes back to life this weekend. So if you have a penchant for running, and maybe a penchant for Halloween, why not get into the holiday spirit by mixing the two?

Head to Woodbridge on Oct. 26 for the inaugural Run From the Killer Zombies. Set off on country roads from a local high school to an old prison complex where you'll find, perhaps expectantly, some killer zombies. You can register online through Oct. 25  for the 5K, 8K or 1K race. More details here.

Want a more authentic zombie feel? Sign up for the Oct. 26 Zombie Run by Sports Zone Elite at National Harbor. During the course of the 5K, zombies attempt to snag three flags attached by velcro on belts given to every runner. Hey, at least they aren't trying to eat you. More details on the Zombie run can be found here.

Want to get into the Halloween-running spirit early? There are several costume runs this weekend and Oct. 19-20. The Washington Post Wellness section has a full listing here.
