All the pie can be yours at the Brixton’s PieFest

From our first birthdays, we're taught cake is the center of the dessert universe. But with experience comes enlightenment: As we all know by now, pie is far, far superior to cake.

Take a stand against Big Cake at the Brixton's PieFest. Nine local piemakers will serve unlimited samples of pie Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. for just $10, including a free glass of punch. Because no pie shindig would be complete without punch. Participants include Blind Dog Cafe, Dangerously Delicious, Pie Sisters and Satellite Room.

Update: PieFest tickets are sold out.

So much better than cake. (Deb Lindsey/For The Washington Post)
