NASA wisely capitalizes on ‘Gravity’s’ success at Oscars

Ellen DeGeneres’s Oscar selfie has drawn attention for its record-setting amount of retweets. But she wasn’t the only one to succeed on Twitter Sunday night. NASA’s official Twitter account seized the chance to celebrate Gravity’s seven Oscars. Sunday evening its 31 tweets averaged 1,772 retweets and 1,135 favorites. For comparison sake, its tweets from Friday and Saturday of this week averaged 353 retweets and 307 favorites.

The more we’re thinking about space and enjoying those beautiful images is good for NASA. It can’t complete its mission without a healthy budget. So taxpayers and lawmakers need to have a passion for space exploration. With over 6 million Twitter followers and two straight Shorty Awards, NASA is doing pretty well.
