Striking videos from a military jet crashing into a California residential area

A U.S. Marine Harrier jet crashed into a residential area in Southern California on Wednesday afternoon. The Associated Press reports the pilot was able to eject safely and no one was injured. The explosive crash of the Harrier AV-8B jet happened in Imperial, Calif., close to the U.S.-Mexico border at 4:20 p.m., resulting in the destruction of two homes.

According to KGUN9, Daniel Urias, a high-school sophomore, was one of the first on the scene. Below you can see a video he took on his cellphone moments after the crash.

Elias Alarcon told Fox5 San Diego:

I saw the pilot eject, then his parachute open. Then, I saw the plane start wobbling and plundering down … I saw the pilot hit the pavement really hard. When I got there he was unconscious. I thought he was maybe dead.

Alarcon shot the video footage below, which shows residents tending to the pilot after he ejected with his parachute and landed in a residential street.
