Nationals’ early pitching matchups

The Nationals season, overflowing with hope and hype, finally begins Monday. Stephen Strasburg will take the mound at Nationals Park with the highest expectations ever for a Nationals team. He will face the Miami Marlins, opposed by right-hander Ricky Nolasco. In the spirit of anticipation, here are the projected pitching matchups for the first two weeks of the Nationals season. (The games that stand out: Strasburg vs. Johnny Cueto on April 7 between two of the best teams in the majors; and Ross Detwiler vs. Julio Teheran, the Braves top pitching prospect who had an electric spring, on April 12.)

April 1, vs. Marlins, 1:05 p.m.: Stephen Strasburg vs. Ricky Nolasco

April 3, vs. Marlins, 7:05 p.m.: Gio Gonzalez vs. Nathan Eovaldi (placed on DL on Sunday) Kevin Slowey

April 4, vs. Marlins, 4:05 p.m.: Jordan Zimmermann vs. Wade LeBlanc

April 5, at Reds, 7:10 p.m.: Dan Haren vs. Homer Bailey

April 6, at Reds, 1:10 p.m.: Ross Detwiler vs. Mike Leake

April 7, at Reds, 1:10 p.m.: Stephen Strasburg vs.  Johnny Cueto

April 9, vs. White Sox, 7:05 p.m.: Gio Gonzalez vs. Jake Peavy

April 10, vs. White Sox, 7:05 p.m.: Jordan Zimmermann vs. Gavin Floyd

April 11, vs. White Sox, 7:05 p.m.: Dan Haren vs. Jose Quintana

April 12, vs. Braves, 7:05 p.m.: Ross Detwiler vs. Julio Teheran

April 13, vs. Braves, 1:05 p.m.: Stephen Strasburg vs. Tim Hudson

April 14, vs. Braves, 1:35 p.m.: Gio Gonzalez vs. Paul Maholm
