The Nationals welcomed back center fielder Denard Span from the seven-day disabled list following a concussion and optioned outfielder Steven Souza Jr. back to Class AAA Syracuse. Span is in the Nationals’ lineup today, hitting leadoff and playing center field.

Anthony Rendon, the Nationals’ hottest hitter and, really, most valuable player so far, moves down to fifth in the lineup against Lance Lynn. Jordan Zimmermann will try to reverse his abysmal history against a Cardinals lineup that, in a day game after a night game, will be without Yadier Molina.
