American Sophie Caldwell advanced to the semifinals of the women’s sprint Tuesday, while teammates Jessica Diggins and Kikkan Randall failed to advance.

Randall was five-hundredths of a second from advancing as a “lucky loser.”

Maiken Caspersen Falla of Norway had the top time in the qualifying and quarterfinal runs. Four Norwegians made the 12-woman field for the semifinals. Competitors ski in two groups of six.
