Alex Ovechkin and the Russian men’s hockey team lead Slovenia, 2-0, after the first period of both teams’ openers in the Sochi Olympics tournament. Ovechkin and teammate Evgeni Malkin each have a goal and an assist for the Russians, with both of Russia’s goals coming on the first two shifts of the Ovechkin-Malkin-Alexander Semin line.

A capacity crowd at the Bolshoi Ice Dome celebrated the home team’s goals, and chants of “Russ-i-a! Russ-i-a!” and “Shaybu! Shaybu! (Score! Score!) have filled the arena.
