Sad baby gorilla update: The baby gorilla has pneumonia

Last week, we told you about an adorable baby gorilla that was adorably adorable after being born via emergency cesarean section at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Well, the baby gorilla is now battling pneumonia, zoo officials said Tuesday.

“We’ve been working with the baby all weekend, and after having several days of experience treating her, it’s pretty obvious that we’ve been dealing with pneumonia,” Nadine Lamberski, associate director of veterinary services at the park, said in a statement. “It probably occurred at about the time of birth.”

The baby gorilla is under 24-hour veterinary care and is being closely monitored. She also required treatment for a collapsed lung on Friday, two days after her birth.
