A Texas man visiting the Grand Canyon with his family died after falling into the canyon over the weekend, according to the National Park Service.

He was identified as John Anderson, 53, of Grapevine, Tex. Anderson fell off the canyon’s southern rim near the El Tovar Hotel, the NPS reported. Authorities were contacted at about 8 a.m. on Saturday. They were able to find Anderson, who had fallen about 350 feet, but were unable to resuscitate him.

The NPS and the Coconino County (Ariz.) Medical Examiner are investigating the cause of the fall.
