‘Dignity and respect’ in GOP platform?

The Republican National Committee's platform could include language alluding to gay people, though not specifically mentioning them, the head of the Log Cabin Republicans told BuzzFeed's Chris Geidner.

"We embrace the principle that all Americans have the right to be treated with dignity and respect," was the statement passed by the RNC platform-drafting committee Monday morning.

The Post's Rosalind Helderman explained earlier what the platform drafting committee aims for: "A good platform must be specific enough to provide guidance for governing but general enough to remain a lofty statement of unifying principle."

So, will the GOP be unified over a nod to the gay community? It appears likely after the vote Monday morning, but "specifics" (like DOMA) are still up for debate among the drafting committee members.
