Ann Wagner defends Todd Akin

A few days ago there was some buzz that Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) might switch places with Ann Wagner, the candidate for his House seat. She would run for Senate, he would have a good shot at reelection, everyone wins.

But Wagner is defending Akin (for now).

"Todd has apologized and understands he was wrong in what he said," Wagner writes in a statement today. "It is now up to Missouri voters to decide whether they accept his apology." She also notes that she's invested in her own race: "I have been running for Congress in Missouri's 2nd District for 16 months and will continue to work hard to earn the trust and confidence of every voter."

Wagner is a former state party chairwoman; her position puts her at odds with most of the in-state and national Republican establishment.
