Romney boost was in GOP base

Mitt Romney's favorability ratings rose 20 points among Republican women and stands at 87 percent overall approval among registered Republicans in the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll released Tuesday. 

But while a majority of Republicans said for the first time they had "strongly favorable" views of Romney, there was no clear improvement in his ratings among independent voters or overall registered voters in the poll, which was conducted between Aug. 29 and Sept. 2. 

And he still trails far behind President Obama in favorability ratings, 51 percent to 40 percent. Read more on the latest poll in the Fix.
