Follow that Big Bird

2004 had swift boat veterans. 2008 had Joe the Plumber. 2012 has Big Bird.

The Sesame Street character is the embodiment of political division, at least for this news cycle, after Mitt Romney said in Wednesday's debate he would end government funding for PBS.

A @FiredBigBird Twitter account quickly appeared and began accumulating followers. The account was tweeting within minutes of Romney's statement that he would make the cuts even though he does "love Big Bird," and has the honor of producing the most retweeted tweet of the debate. But that account is currently suspended for the second time, along with @FiredElmo and @FiredOscar.

As for the official accounts affiliated with Sesame Street, they tweeted carefully on the issue.

The real Big Bird is refusing all appearance requests
