President Obama’s top five challenges

With the election over, here are the top five things Americans would like President Obama to fix during his second term, according to Gallup:

Gallup's latest poll on Obama's top five challenges.

On top of all that, Obama faces a civil war in Syria,  his own staffing issues and a year-end fiscal showdown with a Congress that could lead to another recession if a deal isn't reached.

Working on any of these issues with this Congress will be a challenge. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has already stated that "there is NO mandate for raising tax rates," and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) similarly declared that the president must move closer to the GOP.

The White House, meanwhile, feels strongly that because Obama ran on a platform to raise taxes on the wealthy he now has a mandate to do so.
