Eric Holder says he’s not sure he’ll stay on

Attorney General Eric Holder told law students at the University of Baltimore Thursday that he wasn't sure he would stay in the Obama administration for another term.

He said he still needed to meet with the president to discuss his future. "Do I have some gas left in the tank?" he asked rhetorically, according to Reuters. "That's something that I'm in the process now of trying to determine."

In the Loop reports that Holder is expected to leave the administration at some point. The only question is when; it could be as soon as before next summer or as late as 2014.

The attorney general has become a top target of Republicans over voter ID laws and the botched "Fast and Furious" gun sting. In his speech, he expressed optimism about a post-election thaw.

"Despite the divisions we may have felt in recent months, and the fierceness with which this year’s campaigns were contested, I am convinced that that the American people will come together, as they always have in times of difficulty, to advance the aspirations, and to honor the values, we share," Holder told the students.

The law school's dean is Ron Weich, the former assistant attorney general for legislative affairs under Holder.
