Neb. gubernatorial candidate Mike Flood withdraws

Nebraska Speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood (R) is dropping his bid for governor, just a month after declaring his candidacy.

Flood announced Thursday that he would withdraw his candidacy because his wife, Mandi, was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this week.

According the Lincoln Journal Star, Flood's exit from the race leaves Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy as the front-runner for the GOP nomination. Sheehy has the backing of current Gov. Dave Heineman (R), who is term-limited.
