Obama rules out short-term debt-ceiling increase

Some congressional Republicans have suggested that a short-term increase in the debt ceiling might be the best strategy for their party to force spending cuts. But President Obama threw cold water on that idea at his Monday news conference.

“I am not going to have a monthly or every-three-months conversation about whether or not we pay our bills,” Obama told reporters.
