Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) gets some early air cover

A new third party group is going up with a significant ad buy to shore up Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) in advance of his 2014 reelection campaign.

The ad, from the new "Stronger Montana Fund," thanks Baucus for leading the effort to permanently exempt family farmers and ranchers from the estate tax earlier this month.

"Max Baucus believes that what Mother Nature can't take away, no taxman should," the ad says, adding: "Now with Washington talking taxes again, tell Sen. Baucus to keep doing what's right for Montana."

The total size of the buy is $275,000, according to the group, and it will run across the state.

It's actually not the first advertising run on Baucus's behalf in the runup to 2014. The senator himself ran ads in in early 2012, as his personal image numbers suffered from his leadership role in the debate over Obamacare.
