Huma Abedin: ‘Why am I doing this?’

Huma Abedin is continuing to bring the full force of her personal charisma to bear in support of her husband's mayoral bid as he weathers a new scandal over his sex life.

In an essay for Harper's Bazaar, Abedin explains why she stayed with Anthony Weiner and supports his candidacy. As she did Tuesday, the longtime aide to Hillary Clinton suggested that if she could forgive her husband, voters could too.

"[W]hy am I doing this?" she writes. "Because Anthony has always been a smart, caring, and dedicated person, and while he’s the same public servant who wants what’s best for the people he represents, he is now something else—a better man. New Yorkers will have to decide for themselves whether or not to give him a second chance. I had to make that same decision for myself, for my son, for our family. And I know in my heart that I made the right one."

Her full story will appear in the September issue of the magazine. The title of the essay: "The Good Wife," the name of a CBS drama about a woman whose politician husband has gone to jail after a sex scandal.
