South Carolina GOP compares IRS to the Gestapo

The South Carolina Republican Party, in an e-mail fundraiser Tuesday, compares the IRS to "Obama's Gestapo."

The e-mail doesn't dwell on the comparison between the IRS and the Nazi secret police for too long, but that is the subject line, and it includes a logo (seen at right).

"Our South Carolina Republicans are fighting on so many fronts and need your help," South Carolina GOP executive director Matt Moore writes. "We're working to defund ObamaCare, grow South Carolina's economy, expose and abolish the IRS and get answers on the cover-up in Benghazi."

The state party is hardly the first group of Republicans to use the G-word to describe the IRS. Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R), for one, has said the same thing.

Update 2:59 p.m.: South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Jaime Harrison is calling for Gov. Nikki Haley (R) to repudiate the e-mail.

“As the leader of her party, Governor Haley should condemn these hateful remarks," Harrison said in a statement. "And as Chairman of the SCGOP, Matt Moore should apologize to the people of South Carolina and donate any money raised from this e-mail to charity."
