Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) will appear on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on Nov. 8, NBC announced Wednesday.

It is Cruz's first appearance on late-night TV (if you don't could his 23-hour filibuster-esque speech, of course).

Cruz has become a hero to some on the right and a lightning rod to many on the left after his push to resist funding the government unless unless the new health-care law was defunded.

He is considered a top potential contender for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination.
