Federal judge says she’ll rule quickly on Va. same-sex marriage ban

NORFOLK -- U.S. District Judge Arenda L. Wright Allen said Tuesday that she will rule quickly on a challenge to Virginia’s ban on same-sex marriages.

“You’ll be hearing from me soon,” Wright Allen said at the conclusion of a nearly two-hour hearing.

Virginia for the first time advanced its new legal position that a 2006 referendum approved by voters to make marriage only between a man and a woman violates the U.S. Constitution.
