Romney to campaign for Joni Ernst in Iowa Senate race

Mitt Romney will travel to Iowa next week to stump for U.S. Senate candidate Sen. Joni Ernst (R) days ahead of the June 3 primary.

Romney will stump for Ernst in Cedar Rapids and Davenport on May 30, her campaign said. The 2012 GOP presidential nominee endorsed Ernst, a state senator, in March.

Ernst is among a crowd of Republicans vying for the GOP nomination to fill the seat of retiring Sen. Tom Harkin (D). Her main competition is businessman Mark Jacobs (R). Recent polling has shown Ernst to be the frontrunner.

The winner of the GOP nomination is expected take on Rep. Bruce Braley (D) in the general election.

The Des Moines Register first reported the news of Romney's planned campaign appearance.
