Lake Braddock senior Ashley Flesch and National Cathedral senior Sarah Ing were named the Virginia and District Gatorade Players of the Year.

Flesch compiled an 18-1 record with a 0.23 ERA in 123 innings pitched through 24 games. With a bat in her hands she clobbered four home runs and posted a .444 batting average. She drove in 24 runs for the third-ranked Bruins.

The West Chester University (Pa.) commit was a two-time All-Patriot Conference selection. Flesch will be in action tonight as Lake Braddock hosts No. 2 South County in the Virginia 6A North region final.

Ing, who won the award for the second time, led the Eagles to a runner-up finish in the ISL AA title game and the D.C. State Athletic Association title. Ing was 10-4 with a 2.28 ERA and 126 strikeouts in 89 innings.

A three-time All-ISL selection, Ing hit a staggering .781 with 14 extra-base hits and 24 RBI.  She has a 3.50 GPA and remains undecided where she will attend school next year.
