The demographics of every congressional district, in one interactive chart

Ever wondered what the Hispanic population is in Texas's 27th congressional district? Or how many veterans live in Florida's 1st district?

Now you can find the answers in one place, thanks to a new tool on the Census Bureau's Web site.

The tool provides demographic data for the inhabitants of every congressional district in the country -- numbers on gender, age, place of birth, etc.

Why does it matter? When trying to understand the reason for a lawmaker's vote, a lot can be gleaned by looking at the demographic makeup of the district he or she represents in Congress.

So go ahead and bookmark the tool now -- or at least after you spend a good amount of time playing around with it (which is what we did).
