Video thank you cards?

Should you teach your kids to write thank you notes for gifts, or to make video thank you cards of themselves using the gift (and thanking the giver in the soundtrack, as they’re using the gift)? Seems to me the video cards could be both more pleasant — and less cliché — for the person getting the “card,” since they actually show the gift being used, and more fun to make for the person sending it.
