Regarding the Dec. 8 front-page article “Lawmakers ﬁnd protecting sugar easy to swallow”:
Finally a group has emerged that can do what no others can and unify the disparate factions in Congress: the sugar lobby. Perhaps it should be enlisted to forge the elusive “grand bargain” budget agreement that will stimulate the economy and chase away the hangover of the Great Recession while reducing the deficit and reforming the tax system. I have a feeling Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) know where to find them. Sweet!
