Thank you to E.J. Dionne Jr. for his delightful tribute to Boston [“To Boston, with love,” op-ed, April 18]. I would like to see him write an addendum recognizing the city’s law enforcement workers now that a successful conclusion of the manhunt for the bombing suspects has been reached.
I, too, grew up in the “neighborhood of Boston” — anything within 30 or so miles may be designated as the city — and remember well the Boston police. Nearly always Irish, and armed with only a billy club to shoo away unleashed dogs, they were friendly, attentive and, when appropriate, stern.
God bless the thousands that so thoroughly eased the tension of a horrid week.
