I was saddened to learn that a hidden gem, the Burma restaurant, is closing [“Taste of another time, another place,” Style, Dec. 25]. It had become a recent favorite of mine. As the nation of Burma, also known as Myanmar, transitions toward modernity, all too often, it seems, icons of the past are lost. One hopes the future will bring to the District not more chain restaurants but rather places, such as Burma restaurant, where a community can come together.
Thank you for giving this restaurant a proper send-off and including its rich and storied past.
