Regarding the March 10 front-page article “Md. pressed to get tougher if crash involves cellphone”:
In addition to tougher distracted-driving laws, automobile design can play a part in preventing tragedies. Just as car manufacturers are required to install seat belts, they could design a safer cellphone interface. New cars are essentially cellphones on wheels, so why not have a “no-talk” option that automatically replies (to text messages as well as voice calls) with, “Sorry, I’m driving”?
