While bike-riding in the District on Sunday, I was excited to see the heavy usage of Capital Bikeshare bikes. However, I was upset to note that almost all the users were without helmets. The evidence is clear that helmets decrease mortality and morbidity of bike accidents. The increase in bicycle use may increase the chance of an accident. It is important that riders wear helmets whether they have their own bikes or use a shared bicycle.
