I’m a native Californian with no particular opinion one way or another on Texas. Thomas E. Ricks suggested in “Spring Cleaning” [Outlook, May 5] that if there were no Texas, John F. Kennedy might still have been alive and two wars might never have happened. Actually, with no Texas and no Lyndon Johnson, Kennedy would have lost to Richard Nixon and missiles in Cuba would have been handled differently. We might not even have been here. Texas may have saved the world.
