The Jan. 30 letters by Kenneth R. Rice and John C. Daly [“Peacemakers of another kind”], commenting on renaming the Washington Redskins the “Peacemakers,” confirmed in my mind our national euphemistic disability.
“Peacemakers” for weapons? “Warriors” for football players? “Playbooks” for military rules of drone assassination? I’d suggest we call our football team the Washington Freedoms. Not that they are, but speaking ideally for them and for us. The bigger question for me is, what do we call the out-of-control Redskins fans?
