The Post’s reviews of live music — or the absence thereof — in the Style section are troubling. Most of the reviews that get printed are of big-name pop acts, obscure, chalkboard-screeching bands (usually at the 9:30 Club) or classical ensembles.
From time to time, I take in a show at the Birchmere in Alexandria, which offers a wide variety of professional musicians, such as Sonny Landreth (extraordinary slide guitarist), Junior Brown (exceptional guitar picker), Dave Alvin (incredible musician and songwriter), Delbert McClinton (great singer, songwriter and band leader) and many others. I have yet to see a review of any of these shows in The Post.
