For obesity, the most common and controversial measure is the Body Mass Index (BMI). But what about all those gadgets and Web sites and services — how are they weighing on your mind? The Virtual Weight Index helps you figure that out:
For every non-landline phone you own, add 3 points.
For every social network you use, add 4 points.
For every laptop you own, add 1 point.
For every tablet computer you own, add 2 points.
For every e-reader you have, add 1 point.
For every e-mail account you use, add 2 points.
For every cellphone texting service you use, add 5 points.
For every online role-playing login you use, add 5 points.
For every desktop computer you own, add 1 point.
For every digital camera you own, add 1 point.
For every additional gadget you own that is not listed here but needs a charger, add 1 point.
For every blog you write or comment on, add 2 points.
A low VWI (25 or less) means that a digital diet could help reduce some stress. A mid-range score (26-35) means that a digital diet could help you stay better organized and slightly more sane. A high VWI (above 35) means that changing your technology usage could truly be life-altering.
