How the VA disrespects wounded vets

I was sadly not surprised by the April 26 Fed Page news story “VA goals skew vets’ mental-health care, Senate panel told.” As a disabled Air Force veteran working with our wounded soldiers, I have seen how they are shuffled through the Department of Veterans Affairs system. An appointment with the VA keeps me waiting a month. I have seen at least one case in which a severely wounded soldier was shuffled around so that staffers didn’t have to work on the case and meet “deadlines.” A lot of these veterans are so disabled they cannot work, but because their VA claims have not been processed they cannot pay their bills. It is no wonder we are seeing so many homeless veterans.
