Regarding the July 26 Metro article “More Metro buses are sought for late-night service workers”:
More buses would be nice, but as the passengers know, the overcrowding on many Metrobus routes would be much relieved if the “bunching” problem was solved and the buses ran on time.
Several things can be done. Eliminate underused stops — the drivers know which ones they are. Speed up the clumsy fare collection; a long line of passengers fumbling for money really slows things down. Do a better job of separating boarding from exiting passengers; the latter should use the rear door but often don’t. Reserve the curb lane for buses on busy streets such as 16th, at least during peak hours, and enforce it strictly. Motorists will complain, but public transportation deserves priority.
