I was deeply troubled by The Post’s editorial judgment in publishing as its lead front-page photo on Oct. 26 an image depicting what appears to be a rowdy and unruly gathering of African American students at the annual homecoming concert of a historically black college in the District.
The image reinforces and propagates longstanding stereotypes regarding African Americans, higher education, hip hop and violence. One may even view this as a subtle and subliminal attack on historically black colleges.
It is further perplexing to me that The Post, arguably a national newspaper, chose to highlight and prominently feature this unremarkable and barely newsworthy local event on the front page of one of its weekend issues.
