Letter to the Editor

Maryland, too, can flourish without casinos

It was interesting to read that Virginia has posted a $130 million surplus — without opening a single gambling casino [Metro, July 31].

Wake up, Maryland. Our great tax-and-spend legislative leaders, House Speaker Michael E. Busch (D-Anne Arundel) and Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller (D-Calvert), and Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) should take notes from our southern neighbors and learn to operate our state with sound financial management.
