Maryland’s referendum on gerrymandering

Regarding the Oct. 14 Metro story “Big bets placed on Md. ballot”:

The appalling congressional redistricting in Maryland (designed specifically to unseat Republican Rep. Roscoe Bartlett) has been exacerbated by the deceptive wording on Question 5, which says: “Establishes the boundaries for the State’s eight United States Congressional Districts based on recent census figures, as required by the United States Constitution.” Who isn’t for census-based districts and the U.S. Constitution?

The trouble is that a vote for that amendment is a vote for shameless gerrymandering.

As a lifelong Democrat, I’m disgusted that my party has fallen below the level of the Republican Party in Texas. Any voter interested in free and fair elections should vote no on Question 5.
