Regarding the Aug. 8 Metro article “After accident, L’Enfant escalator being inspected”:
As if a fare increase and constant delays weren’t enough headaches for Metro users, I witnessed Metro employees execute a horrible response to the accident.
As the article reported, during Tuesday’s commute, a passenger’s bag caught and tore loose the side panel of an escalator, causing riders to lose their balance. Five commuters were injured. I arrived shortly after the accident occurred and observed only one employee tending to an injured passenger, while three other workers just watched, ignoring the blood splattered on the platform. A fourth worker was writing down information. Another passenger was sitting on a nearby bench nursing a wound, receiving assistance only from someone who appeared to be a fellow commuter.
While I was there, Metro employees made no effort to block the area where the injured passengers’ blood was spattered across the floor. Several commuters, apparently unbeknown to them, walked through the blood. I think it’s safe to say that Metro’s do-nothing-or-nearly-nothing attitude has been confirmed.
