As an occasional online commenter, I value the opportunity to join in the back and forth provided by The Post. I’ve taken my shots from other commenters like a big boy, and I’ve given a few. But I wonder if at times The Post’s editors consider whether they have created a monster. The vitriol, snark, insults and prejudice that characterize so much of what is posted from across the political spectrum have to be a great disappointment.

I subscribed to The Post’s electronic edition in the hope that paying a subscription fee might somehow screen out the worst of the garbage, but there has been no apparent effect. That is a disappointment.

I am an absolute free-speech advocate, as long as it’s paired with accountability. Thus, I post using my true name, not an anonymous “handle.” Why not require all posters to do the same?
