Why was the sweeping quote that “A boy, a man, always thinks he has a better way of doing things, so he won’t do exactly what you tell [him]” necessary in Petula Dvorak’s Metro column about girls learning archery [“Tween girls aim for a Katniss-worthy summer,” Metro, July 27]? Such a comment is hurtful, unsubstantiated and propagates negative stereotypes. I don’t think it has a role in your newspaper.
