Shanahan shirked his duty
At 22 and in his first job out of college, Robert Griffin III — despite his poise and success — is still just a young adult [“Griffin may have partial knee tears,” front page, Jan. 8]. Just like all the other people at his stage of life, we should expect that his decision-making skills and ability to appreciate his lack of invincibility are still developing. When I see young people in my medical practice who are engaging in risky behaviors, my job is to help them see the potential dangers of their actions and not to buy into their own, developmentally expected, feeling of invincibility. That is the responsibility of adults who work with all young people. Coach Mike Shanahan shirked his duty and he let a young man down.
