Regarding the July 31 front-page article “Pepco says in reports that it moved ‘quickly’ after derecho”:
I am amazed at how much whining Pepco officials have to put up with from local politicians and residents. Maybe these critics should consider the following:
On June 29, my wife and I lost power soon after the storm hit. This was one of the worst storms I have witnessed in my 51 years of living in the Washington area.
My daughter called me to say that a tree had crashed through the house that she, her husband, my two grandsons and my elder son had moved into less than a week earlier. The roof came crashing in on them while she and her husband were saying goodnight to my grandsons. Thankfully, everyone escaped with just minor injuries, but the damage to the house was so severe that they must move out for three months during repairs.
As we all sat in my house after the storm, we were able to give thanks that no one was killed. We never gave it a thought that we had no power or that it was hot without the AC running.
Pepco did what it could to restore power quickly, given the extraordinary circumstances of this storm.
