With The Post under constant scrutiny for what it is changing, here’s a word of thanks for something it has left alone: Alex Ovechkin quotes. The editing impulse to “clean up” what the Russian-born Washington Capitals hockey star says in English might be irresistible. Fortunately, The Post apparently leaves his language alone, giving us the chance to read this Ovechkin quote in the raw [Sports, April 24]: “Last year we had a lead, 3-1 [against Montreal], and we thought it was over and we was a little bit relaxed. Now everybody focused and everybody don’t have any relaxes.”

That’s more than a colorful quote in broken English.  From the Great Eight, that’s great poetry.  And it neatly described our city, whose workaholics likewise don’t seem to have any relaxes.
